MMOsite: What core concepts and features do you emphasize most in Runes of Magic? And what's your favorite feature?

Daniel: There are many features in Runes of Magic that you can find in other MMOs and some that are quite unique. The great thing about this game is that it has taken features and ideas from classic MMOs and combined them along with new concepts in to one amazing new game. Some of the "core" concepts is the dual class system for me, which is unlike any other dual class system from other MMOs. You literally have two classes put together in one character. At any time you can switch between the two depending on what role you or your group needs next. It's difficult to say what my favorite feature is, since there is so much available in this game which you can't even find in many of the leading subscription based games. However, I would like to point out one of my favorite features in Runes of Magic--the Housing. Every player has his or her own personal house from the very start. Here one can setup mannequins to display armor sets, weapon racks to display weapons and shields, a treasure chest in which you can store all types of equipment and you can setup your house with furniture, wall decorations etc. You can also give friends the password to your house which allows them entry as well. At any time players can move and arrange treasure chests, armor mannequins, weapon racks, furniture and so on in any way that they desire. I feel that this feature is one of the most advanced and fun features I have ever experienced in an MMO, and I'm sure all will agree once they have a chance to see this for themselves. And that's not all. Guilds can arrange their own houses as well after their own preferences and gather there to plan their next adventures. And for sure, it will be fun to do PvP battles, guild battles and "server vs. server vs. server" combat besides doing standard and tile-based raids.

MMOsite: A very old question for you. There are a lot of free fantasy MMOs on the market. How will your game set itself apart from the others? What led you to adopt the free-to-play business model for Runes of Magic?

Daniel: There are indeed a lot of fantasy MMOs on the market, and it is a difficult to get ahead of the pack so to speak. However, we feel making Runes of Magic a free-to-play game is a no-brainer. Of course we could have made it subscription based, and it would have no doubt been quite successful. However, being a game made by MMO fans for MMO fans, the developers at Runewaker understand that subscription based games are perhaps great for business, but not really the best for the players and will turn many people away even before giving it a chance.
